Bonne Journee

For our final day in the City of Love we head to the Louvre. Out come the umbrellas as we walk towards one of Paris' grand jewels. Because of the rain, the museum is a mass of humanity, all seeking some of the world's finest examples of art. Marisa and I made a beeline to Miss Mona Lisa to try and beat a few of the hundreds of classes searching for her as well. Next stop, the Egyptian antiquities and Roman statues. We love this place. After an abbreviated visit, it is our last day after all, we are off to revisit a few of our favorite shops. Our final purchases of the trip....? Suitcases, of course. How else do we get all those macaroons home! Our final evening was spent with our friends, the Conte family, in the beautiful town of Bougival. Miss Caroline is our foreign exchange student, to whom Marisa refers affectionately as her frenchie. Marisa has stayed with the Conte family while in high school and we have enjoyed Caroline's company in our home a few times so it was nice to finally meet her family. Caroline's father owns and is the head chef of La Camelia. It is a fabulous restaurant and was by far our best meal in France. Thanks to Jerry and Elizabeth for such warm hospitality. Sabastien, Carolin's sweet fiancé, drove us home to our hotel. Our route was down the Champs Élysées, around the Arc de Triomphe, past the Louvre, the Place de Concorde, the Latin Quarter, and much more. What a fitting finish to an amazing first ever girls trip for us. Cowgirls in Paris...we feel a little less Oklahoman and a little more Parisian.
So where to next?

Louis and Sebastien

We began our day with Mr Louis V for our big trip present. We diligently watched the exchange rates and each bought matching bags! How "presh" as Marisa would say. Our next stop was at a wonderful little vintage shop we just happened to pass by. Sebastien, the owner was such a pleasure. He had just a little English and Marisa had just enough French to make it a delightful visit. We had lunch close to our hotel at a very traditional French bistro. The afternoon was filled with the Marais and Notre Dame. We are sooooo tired, another huge walking day. Happy!

Bonjour Monsieur Chat

Bonjour Monsieur Chat, ca va? Back to the Eiffel Tower this morning. We just can't get enough of the beautiful views. With ominous weather we did what any two cowgirls should do....head to the mall. Not any mall but the Galeries Lafayette. A simply stunning building with luxury shopping that goes forever. We took our de jeuner at the gourmet grocery store where we dined surrounded by treats from around the world. The afternoon brought better weather so we headed for Monmartre. Today was the day of a thousand steps ( ok... maybe I'm exaggerating, but not by much). Sacre Coeur was beautiful, the panoramic views..amazing, and the wine in our little bistro very special. So nice to be here in Paris with my daughter. Such a nice girl's trip!

Versailles ...Living like Queens

Up early and back to the underground to make our way to Versailles. We met up with a small tour group. What a decadent display of power and wealth. You've gotta love the Louis' (14th, 15th, and 16th...we're there more?) Amazing really. We had a wonderful baguette sandwich and fantastic apricot tarts. We must have walked 10 miles today, easy. Back to our little neighborhood for dinner, a smooth Bordeaux, and a finale of a waffle topped with creme brûlée (including the crunchy carmelized top). Amazing!!

Flea Markets and Churches

After a fun little breakfast at our hotel we met up with Dan and Jeni and headed to a large flea market in north Paris. We had lunch at a very French cafe complete with Manuela, the hostess and singer extraordinaire! In the afternoon we took in the gorgeous Sainte-Chapelle with 14 fabulous stained glass windows.
